FaceApp is the pick when you want to see yourself older, bearded or with new hair, not when you want your face in a film scene. Its privacy policy is also unusually specific: edited photos are deleted from its cloud servers 24 to 48 hours after the last edit.
01FaceApp overview
FaceApp answers a different question from most tools on this site. Instead of moving a face between two pictures, it rebuilds the face already in your photo: older or younger, a different gender look, new hair colour, a beard, a smile. The multiface button lets you edit each person in a group shot one at a time, and Beard Transfer copies a beard style from a reference photo. Swapping one person's face onto another body is not part of the toolset.
For Malaysian users the buying process is simple because Apple and Google bill FaceApp Pro in ringgit. The Malaysian App Store lists FaceApp PRO purchases from RM 25.00 up to RM 399.90, with monthly and annual plans that share the same features; only the length differs. The free version covers many popular filters, including the ageing ones, but may stamp a watermark on the saved image.

05FaceApp privacy and uploads
FaceApp uploads a photo only when you apply a filter to it; pictures you never edit stay on the phone. Edited photos are processed on Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services and, according to the privacy policy, deleted within 24 to 48 hours of the last edit. The cache is encrypted with a key kept on your device, and FaceApp says it uses photos and videos only to provide the editing feature.
You do not have to wait for the timer: Settings, then Privacy & Legal, then Delete Cloud Photo Cache removes the encrypted copies at once. Edit only photos of your own face or of people who agreed to it. The face swap risk guide covers what can go wrong when edited portraits are shared.
| Media retention | 24 to 48 hours after the last edit (encrypted cloud cache) |
|---|---|
| Deletion | Instant: Settings > Privacy & Legal > Delete Cloud Photo Cache |
| Training use | Not stated as such; policy limits use of photos to providing the editing feature |
06What FaceApp can and cannot do to a face
FaceApp sorts its effects into folders such as Age, Gender, Hair, Beards and Makeup, and Pro filters can be previewed before you subscribe. The Eraser and Merge tools keep an effect on the face while the background stays as it was, which helps when a hair colour spills onto a wall or a shirt.
- Ageing filters: included in the free and Pro versions
- Group photos: tap a face, then switch with the multiface button
- Beard Transfer: copies a beard style from a reference picture
- Not included: placing a face into another photo, video or GIF
If your goal is to put yourself into a film still or a meme, look at our face swap app shortlist or the GIF swap tools. Those services take two inputs, a source face and a target picture, which is the step FaceApp leaves out. In a browser, Remaker AI and PixNova both work that way.
07Paying for FaceApp Pro in Malaysia
FaceApp does not sell Pro on its website. You subscribe in the app's PRO section, and Apple or Google bills the plan in ringgit, so no currency conversion or foreign card fee applies. FaceApp's FAQ says prices differ by country, that monthly and annual plans include the same features, and that the annual plan is the cheaper choice per month.
- Malaysian App Store range: RM 25.00 to RM 399.90
- Billing: Apple App Store or Google Play
- Cancel: in the store account that bills you
- Uninstalling the app does not stop renewals
Before paying, preview the Pro filter you actually want on one selfie. If the free version already covers your favourite effects, the main gain from a subscription is a saved file without the watermark.

09FaceApp FAQ
Does FaceApp have a face swap feature?
Not in the usual sense. FaceApp edits the face that is already in your photo: it can age it, change the gender look, add a beard or restyle the hair. It does not take a face from one picture and place it on another person, a video or a GIF. For that, pick one of the free face swap tools built for two inputs.
How much is FaceApp Pro in Malaysia?
The Malaysian App Store lists FaceApp PRO in-app purchases between RM 25.00 and RM 399.90, billed in ringgit. FaceApp sells monthly and annual plans with identical features, and its FAQ calls the annual plan the cheaper option per month. Open the PRO section in the app to see the exact plan prices for your account before paying.
Can I use FaceApp for free?
Yes. The app is free to download and many popular filters, including the ageing ones, work without paying. Some Pro filters can be previewed for free. The catch is the watermark: FaceApp's terms allow it to mark images edited in the free version, and removing that mark yourself breaks the terms.
Does FaceApp keep my photos?
Only briefly. Photos you never edit are not uploaded at all. Edited ones sit in an encrypted cloud cache on Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services and are deleted 24 to 48 hours after your last edit. You can clear them sooner under Settings, Privacy & Legal, Delete Cloud Photo Cache.
How do I cancel FaceApp Pro?
Cancel through the store that bills you, because FaceApp does not handle payments itself. On an iPhone that means the subscriptions list of your Apple account; on Android it is the subscriptions page in Google Play. Uninstalling the app cancels nothing, and the plan keeps renewing until you switch it off in the store.
